Jumper JP1 on the adapter board has the function described below. The information below defines jumper setting for configuring up to two drives on a signal AT bus. JP1 pins 1,3 CLOSED Single drive system CLOSED Master drive in a dual-drives system OPEN Slave drive in a dual-drive system Drives are selected by the DRV bit in the drive/head register and by a jumper, JP1, on the drive designating it as either a master or a slave. When the DRV bit is reset, the master drive is selected, and when the DRV bit is set, the slave drive is selected. When drives are daisy chained, one must be jumpered as the master and one as the slave. When a single drive is attached to the interface, it must be jumpered as the master. Ten base mounting points are the standard provision. The drive is mounted using 6/32 screws; 1/8 max. insertion for the bottom. The system integrator should allow ventilation for the drive to ensure reliable drive operation over the operating temperature range. For additional vibration isolation, an external suspension system may be used. Drive Mechanism --------------- A brushless DC directly drive motor rotates the spindle at 3393 RPM. The motor/spindle assembly is balanced to provide minimal mechanical runout to the disks and to reduce the vibration of the HDA. A dynamic brake is used to provide a fast stop to the spindle motor when power is removed. Task File Interface Connector ----------------------------- The ZM3140 has a 40 pin Task File interface connector (JP6) mounted on the printed circuit board. Two drives may be daisy chained together with this connector, and the maximum cable length is two feet. Air Filtrations System ---------------------- Within the sealed enclosure, a 0.3 micron filter provides a clean environment to the heads and disks.
